mollivan websites
As long time Mac users, we're not afraid of computers. Jon's Mac is his garage. We figured that building working websites should not be scary either, and anyone could do it, even us! We've produced several operational websites, including those listed below. The last four are dynamic websites serving current issues and back issues of scientific journals and are driven by PHP and MySQL.
- Kokako Recovery Project
- New Zealand Ecological Society
- New Zealand Ecology Reviews
- CanterburyNature
- New Zealand Journal of Ecology
- New Zealand Entomologist
- Notornis
- New Zealand Journal of Forestry
tools for the job
We tip our sun hats to our favourite software.
- BBEdit (scripting HTML, PHP, SQL, and grep text manipulation)
- Transmit (FTP)
- Adobe Photoshop
- Apache (it's great to have Apache installed by default in Mac OS X and available via Terminal for creating htaccess files for password protection)
- TeXShop (PDF creation using LaTeX, including automation via AppleScript connections to FileMaker Pro databases)
- ColorSync (an easily overlooked but incredibly useful part of Mac OS X for PDF manipulation, e.g., PDF file compression)
Mollivan.com is currently under construction. It's best if you call again later rather than risk personal injury slipping on one of the piles of code scattered on the web floor.
